Ikhaya Blog - A green trade for a greener world - Recycled bags

I could not wait to write this piece about these fantastic bags from Bali! I know it's not African but I just love them so much! The design & colours are fantastic & make a statement about being ethical.

Before I started this business I first saw a similar bag in Morocco & really loved the concept, when these bags came across my path I could not resist getting them for the market.

My contact in Bali is a man namded Komank, I asked him to send me some info about his business & the response was amazing, he even apologised for not doing more! From planting over 500 trees, giving talks about global warming at schools, scholarship program where he sponsors a child to go to school, he now produces & exports these recycled plastic bags. Truly inspirational!

The plastic for the bags is colected from every shop in the village, and a central garbage depot in the north called Singaraja.

''Hopefully through your support and other people I can make more and make my dream come true which is having public library in my village for the next generation. Because I believe that knowledge is not coming only from school but also by reading the books''
Komank Redanana

The philosophy that drives him A GREEN TRADE FOR A GREENER WORLD!

The bags are for sale this Sat at the Powerhouse market - you will find me in my usual spot!

For those of you not visiting the market this weekend, I will be loading the bags up this weekend for sale online.
